Highlighted by Highly Enthused is a newsletter, once a podcast, concerning all the best things to consume in life. It’s written twice per month by Sophie McComas-Williams and Sophie Roberts, and today’s dispatch is written by SoMo! The majority of each newsletter is free, but there are five extra recs in each for paid subscribers. Thanks for being here!
Each year I say this, but each year I can’t believe the words leave my mouth. I’m ready for the ‘summer’ to end. Even though we’ve entered the best month of the year in Sydney for ocean swimming (MARCH! IYKYK), I could do with less boob sweat and sunburn. Whenever I carry Bruno in the carrier I have to peel him off me when we’re done, both considerably damp. Times have been good though - our house renovation is DONE, I’m learning baby massage, my rings ALMOST fit back on my fingers and my birthday is coming up! I’d love to know what’s lighting you up at the moment, what have you discovered lately, what’s the best thing you’ve eaten this week? Tell me in the comments :)

There’s a lot of terrible quiche in the world (really tackling the big topics here at Highly Enthused). For the most part, in my opinion, it’s too dry, too soggy, hides shit pastry, or holds only the tiniest whimpers of ham. It’s no good. BUT OH MY GOD, this will change everything you think about quiche. And everything you think about ordering pastry on the internet. Berkelo’s organic ham, potato and Symons’ cheddar family quiche is so wobbly centered, creamy and rich, packed with so many layers of cheesy potato and salty ham. The pastry is crisp and gorgeous, it’s insane. I can’t stop talking about it. I ordered a couple for a work event recently and they didn’t stand a chance. They deliver too! They actually delivered them at 4am, bakery hours I guess? Quiche lover or no, get into it. Stash one in the freezer.

Did you read Lisa Taddeo’s Three Women? The non-fiction literary sensation of 2019? The TV adaptation has just come out on Stan, and it’s so good! The book follows Lisa, a journalist for the glossies, as she spends eight actual years documenting the complex interior lives of three different women, in three different small American towns to write a novel on American sexuality. The show focuses quite firmly on Lisa herself (Gia, in the TV show played by Shailene Woodley) and her journey of discovery between each woman. It’s SEXY, painful, powerful. I couldn’t look away. They seem to be making a point of showing endless on-screen penis in this though, amiright?

I’m not ready for any postpartum jeans shopping trauma yet, but I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect pair of denim shorts to tide me over this season. I’ve Goldilocksed a few, from some literal Mom Shorts (too tight!), to Blanca’s longer-cut Velo shorts (too light coloured!), but I finally found my pick this week in Bassike’s pull-on mini shorts. Emphasis on the elasticated waist, for this is my life right now! Besides that, the denim is the exact shade of blue I wanted, with not a ripped edge in sight.
The Fast Five
A quick-fire rundown of the miscellaneous finds we’ve loved this month. In this edition, beautiful custom notebooks, a riff on the Bloody Mary, a highlighter that’ll make your cheekbones look like glass, and what I use to dye my eyebrows at home.
